Top Ten Things To Watch And Listen To

Yes, it is true that for a time in my childhood there was no TV in our home. For the finer details on that, you'll have to wait for a post dedicated to my mom.You won't be the only one waiting for that post. Wednesday is usually a day I spend at home with Aiden. I try to make a point to not have the television on too much. We may watch one movie for the day, then move on to other things. Sometimes we spend the balance of the day discussing the message that was embedded in the plot of the movie. For example, a few weeks ago we watched Black Hawk Down. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265086/. Over lunch, we discussed the pitfalls that arise when trying to be the world's police force, as well as the constitutionality of such a policy. You get the picture. All this is to say that I try to be selective in what movies Aiden watches, and what music he favors. At least for as long as is practical. At some point he will need to make these decisions on his own. During our time today, a song came to mind that I had not thought of for years. You will hear some of it if you watch the video below. As is often the case with music, I ran through the lyrics in my mind and all at once I was able to recall dozens of stories and memories that had occurred during the time this song was popular. Then I realized, I have no idea what this song really means. A few keystrokes and mouse clicks later I had my answers. I have made note of a few of them below as well. As for the official Top Ten of this post, here a few things from the world of entertainment that I hope to put in front of Aiden, much as they were for me.
1. M*A*S*H
My Mom always called this "the idiot show", I don't really know why. My dad and I will still laugh out loud to this day watching re-runs.
2. "The bears and I"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071199/. If you can get past the 70's hair styles, it is a great movie.
3. Anything "Indiana Jones".
Made learning history and scripture fun.
4. Anything by Keith Green
Even if you want to ignore his message of hope and God's love for all, you can't help but be BLOWN AWAY by this man's utter passion for life and music. Want to waste some time wisely? Check out a short film on his life at youtube....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6hOyx8LF4I
5. Character Sketches

Nature and it's Creator made fun, the way it should be, the way it is.

As mentioned, here is the video and song that got me thinking today.
It's amazing to me that having known this song by heart for 15 years, I finally know what the lyrics mean. Very fitting for a father. I suspect if Tommy and Johnna watch the video, they will have quite the laugh. How many things rush into your mind guys, listening to this song?

Speaking of grace...

13Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Praise God for His Living Water and for giving us another beautiful picture of his grace!

What is really remarkable...reading THAT poem and singing THAT song to my sons. I imagine what memories God will afford them.

THANK GOD we have God, or our lives would be horribly different.

What a great time in my life when those songs came out. I remember going with Johnna and a few others to see SCC in concert at the Lambs in Manhattan. The funny thing is my wife was there that night before we had even met...that's another story. Glad to see Aiden didn't end up down stream...
