DAY 3
We’re starting to get into a routine here and I am feeling really good. We’re drinking 3-4 juices (probably 12-16 oz each) a day and I am not at all weak or fatigued. If anything, I have more energy. I have been to my martial arts classes for the past two days, as well. I kind of figured I might need to skip classes because I would be so tired, but that’s not the case at all. Don’t get me wrong, there are several times during the day when I dream about eating a cheeseburger, onion rings…. I am even craving ham and mashed potatoes. I am hoping by this weekend, those “cravings” will disappear. The only drawback to this whole thing is that I miss the ritual of eating, especially dinner. We don’t really have a sit down dinner together like a family. We’re all crowded around the kitchen island standing around the juicer. My 3 year old LOVES helping us make the juice and for someone who is adamantly against all things green, he tries every juice we make. He doesn’t necessarily like every juice but I give him credit for trying them all. Usually, I try to make him lunch or dinner sometime around our juicing and even though I sit with him while he eats, I still feel like he’s eating all by himself. I know it is just temporary and it is better for our family in the long run. He is very excited when we talk about which foods are good for you and which are OK to eat “once in awhile”. I have always been as careful as I can about giving him organic food in our house and keeping the processed, unhealthy food to a minimum. I feel like we kind of got off track a little and after reading Dr. Fuhrman’s book, Disease-Proof Your Child, I decided we needed to step it up a notch. I removed anything that wasn’t organic. I even stopped buying the snacks he is used to having that are organic, just not necessary. I replaced them with more fruits and nuts and whole grain options. He doesn’t even seem to notice. I thought it would be a battle for him to lose the staples he is used to having but honestly, he hasn’t even asked for them. I simply tell him what we have and he decides what he wants. Who knew?
