Lessons From Dr. Jones

(This post contains video)
When life is treating us well we don't often stop to figure out why. We don't question money we were not expecting. We don't hesitate at good news. We don't turn down a surprise gift. When things go bad, however, we all of a sudden want to know why. We want to know to where to assign blame in hopes of avoiding hard times in the future. People put their trust in all manner of people, things, creations, and organizations. From doctors to help us in times of pain, to our employers to keep our bills paid, we seem to have compartmentalized who we call on from one need to the next. I have serious doubts our lives were ever meant to be sectioned off in this way. How about the deeper needs we all have? Things like money and prestige can almost be obtained with ease....at least for a measured amount of time. Our real needs, the ones we seldom speak about, are much harder to fill. Who do we call on for these? Peace. Wisdom. Security. Love. Surely we are all far too intelligent to realize that putting our trust in our employer or the government to give us such things is futile. Not even family and friends can give us what we really need. People will come and go in our lives. Family can and will disappoint and leave us hurt. Friends too, can change with time and leave us wanting. Many a person has stood in front of a crowd of people and professed to love for the rest of their lives, only to change their mind in a few years time about who they love, or if they can even love at all.
Whatever your struggle may be at present, be honest with yourself about your belief system for wanted success in this area. Have you been let down? Have you been met with more frustration than blessings? Will you consider that your trust thus far been misplaced? Perhaps you have not trusted anyone or anything at all. Are you leaving something so important as peace to chance, or the will of the universe? Yes, harsh times and bad news will always be with us. That does not mean that peace needs to come and go as well. If you believe in something on a good day, only to curse it when disaster finds you, did you really believe to begin with?
