This weekend I'm spending time with the 5th and 6th graders from LCBC. The scene(s) in the clip below shows the toilet paper fight, that was the culmination of tonight's activities. Toilet paper, 250 kids and a few modified leaf blowers. A recipe for fun.
Have you ever looked into the eyes of real fear? Seen the face of a truly frightened person?
I did so tonight. A student who I initially thought had a very serious injury was looking right through my eyes as he struggled to breathe. For what was easily the longest sixty seconds in recent memory, I watched this child struggle to keep air flowing in and out of his lungs. A developmental disorder further complicated his ability to communicate as I would have liked him to.
Pause.....slow down.
After a few moments, things were improving and all the fear subsided.
I saw a bit of God in this autistic child. Had things not slowed down, had there been a more serious injury, I would have likely missed it all together.
Slowing down is very counter culture nowadays. We probably miss a great deal that has been given to us by not doing so.
P.S. The line of the night came from Chad, speaking to the students just before dinner.......
"When you get into the cafeteria, you should be touching somebody"

Slow down!!!! Amen.
God gives use special insight when we least expect it and most need it.
God is amazing He knows exactly when we need to stop breathe and listen to Him
