Avalanche 2009

Q. What do you get from spending 2 days with 200 middle schoolers?
A. EXHAUSTED

One night my radio chirpped and I was informed that a student had cut his foot and required medical attention. The scene inside his cabin was surreal. It looked liked a mixture of a UFC training camp and a candy factory had been assembled inside a war zone. While putting this kid's foot back together I took occasion to look around the room a bit. Picture if you will, a linen closet, shelf organizer. Something with varying size compartments and adjustable shelving. One such piece of furniture was attached to the wall in between a set of bunk beds. Inside one of the sections was a 7th grade boy. How he had managed to get himself in there, along with his pillow, I'll never know. I just assumed he had help. When I asked him if he intended to spend the night sleeping in this wall unit, he replied in a muted, painful voice.... "I have to, they dared me."
You just can't make this stuff up.

You'd be hard pressed to go through one of these experiences and not walk away having learned something. For me, it would be the phrase "beautifully made"
This stems from the thinking that the world we live in has been finely tuned to support our every breath and all manner of life around us. If we are to take that as truth, then how much more, is it truth that we all have been equally fined tuned into perfection.
All this by accident, I think not.

I didn't do a very good job of taking comprehensive photos of the weekend's events. If you'd like to take a broader look at things, check in with PJ or Matt.

All I can say for certian is, very little sleeping went on in that cabin all night. I think he got credit for staying in there, even if there was no sleep involved.
