Top Ten Scenes From A Week With Middle Schoolers

Playing the role of "Camp Nurse", I spent the past week with the middle school students of http://www.lcbcchurch.com/
Here are a few memorable moments.... including a few from the first aid perspective.
1. Middle school student runs up to Camp Nurse with gummi worms in hand and BFF in tow and states " I just fell down and now I have a concussion"
Camp Nurse In response.... "If you can say concussion, you don't have one!, now give me some gummi worms and go away"
2. Middle school student to Camp Nurse....." My Plantar fasciitis hurts"
Camp Nurse in Response......"Who Taught you to talk like that?!"
The Kids were encouraged to "Move" this week.
Move closer to God. Move towards others, in an effort to extend Christ's love to the community. They also learned about God's desire to Move closer to us.
What I saw all week long was how the leaders moved towards the Kids.
They became Jesus for them in every way. From the youngest leader, probably around 17yrs old, to the oldest adult, they all rallied around and loved these kids every single minute. Through the shaving cream battles, and clogged toilets in the cabins, the leaders laughed and loved.
Every day would conclude with a gathering of all the students for worship and teaching. The energy that was generated night after night was amazing. Yes, there was loud music, and flashing lights, but more than any of that, there was a display of God's love, manifest in the entire scene. With any luck, heaven looks something like this.....

Camp has clearly changed a great deal since my days in Junior High.Gone are the days of board games and guys vs. girls games of capture the flag.Enter the film festivals and cooking competitions. Also new to the scene is speaking to the students as though they are adults, or at least as though they have a valued place in our community. Empowering them to realize they can further God's message of love to all those they encounter. Something that has not changed much are the camp rules....... (click on the pic to get a better look)

And these were just for the Leaders.
