Though I gave you my answer verbally when I first read your post, I felt the need to publicly state that I have changed my mind. My initial (and immediate)answer was that people are inherently good. I read your post today, "_____ (This is me being Speechless", and now realize that people are actually inherently evil. If someone performs a good deed (as the homeless man in your story did), it is certainly more of an unnatural and rare occurrence. I am only comforted by the hope that this young, homeless man may now be in the presence of God- not because of his good deed but because only someone who knows God could apparently act so selflessly. "Greater love hath no man than one who lay down his life for a friend", except perhaps one who lays down his life for a stranger.
I've always been told, if you need an ambulance, don't shout: "someone call 911" because then everybody will expect someone else to do it. You should instead pick a specific person..."you in the blue shirt, yes, you! call 911!"
I don't know what people saw when they walked by the homeless man laying on the sidewalk. Maybe they saw a homeless man passed-out on the sidewalk and thought: "none of my business." I don't think this is evidence of Original Sin, as Krissy does, though it is certainly proof that people are selfish and lazy.

In regards to your other post, "Question" http://toptenshamus.blogspot.com/2010/04/question.html
My answer was instinctively that people are inherently good. I watched this video and have since changed my mind.
